JB Thanks: Kaleidoscope
John showed his support for Kaleidoscope Trust, who work globally to promote a sentiment for diversity and equal rights for all, and launched their "What if it were illegal for you to be you?" campaign. We received a message of thanks from their Head of Communications, Ian Temple:
Team Barrowman,
Thank you for an absolutely tremendous launch yesterday of IMAGINE IF IT WERE
ILLEGAL TO BE YOU.
John was absolutely amazing – and worked tirelessly on our behalf from 6.30am
until 9.30pm!
I think its unheard of for a charity viral video to be aired in full on news
channels in the way we managed to yesterday.
John was brilliant at promoting the website address at every opportunity. The
early response and awareness has been great. The video has been viewed on You
Tube over 11,000 times in the first 24 hours. These figures will now increase
exponentially as the video is shared.
We have had a 20% increase in signed up social media followers and a staggering
2000% increase in visitors to the website.
The mentions of the campaign through Twitter and John's incredible fanbase
overwhelmed us and are in the tens of thousands!
We are incredibly grateful that John should dedicate a day of his incredibly
busy schedule to support Kaleidoscope and are very proud to have him as our
passionate spokesman!
Many, many thanks

Blackpool Concert Cancelled
Press release follows:
Tonight's John Barrowman concert at the new Tower Festival Headland, Blackpool, has been cancelled on health and safety grounds, after severe weather was forecast by the Met Office.
John Barrowman today apologised for the cancellation and promised to return to perform in the resort very soon but explained that the safety of fans and his technical team was of the utmost importance.
All ticket holders will receive a full refund of the ticket face value.
Concert organisers Cuffe & Taylor are responsible for bringing John Barrowman to Tower Festival Headland, Blackpool, with the destination management company, Marketing Blackpool, responsible for the site, staging and infrastructure, along with all health and safety of the event site.
A spokesperson for Cuffe & Taylor said: “We have consulted with Marketing Blackpool’s health and safety team and they have advised us that, due to the forecast of severe weather, it is unsafe for our teams to install the sound and lighting equipment for this evening’s concert.
“Whilst the weather forecast is much better for later today and for Sunday, there isn’t time for us to install the equipment safely and without putting our staff at risk.
“We have endeavoured to do everything possible to allow John to perform but we have to follow the advice of the venue's management.”
Commenting on the announcement today, John Barrowman said:
“I am deeply disappointed that Mother Nature has had the final say on my concert in Blackpool. I’ve been following the forecast very closely all week!
“Obviously, I really want to perform for my fans, however, the safety of fans and my technical team is of the utmost importance and I have to follow the advice of the organisers. I promise that I will be back to Blackpool very soon!!!”
Organisers Cuffe & Taylor have arranged for all ticket holders for tonight’s event to receive a full refund for any tickets purchased.
Ticket holders are advised to contact their original point of purchase to arrange a refund.

A Barrowman Clearout!
John has been busy sorting out his wardrobes. He's sent lots of items to Dogs Trust for them to sell in their Cowbridge shop - but don't dash over to Cowbridge just yet, as the items won't go on sale until 9.30am on Saturday 31 March 2012!
If you'd like to be the new owner of one of these JB items, many of which he's worn on TV shows, the shop's details are:
- 62 Eastgate, Cowbridge, CF71 7AB
- Telephone: 01446 774423
Please don't call the shop to enquire if telephone orders and reservations are available. They have advised us that this isn't possible and they can't accept credit card payments over the phone. They can accept credit cards on the day in the Cowbridge shop.
There will be items listed in the Dogs Trust eBay shop after 31 March and they will ship worldwide. The link, below, will take you to all current Dogs Trust items and John's donations will be clearly identified when they are available.
John's message, about the sale, follows:
"It's no secret to anyone who knows me that two of my favourite things are shopping and supporting Dogs Trust. After a recent spring-cleaning, I donated
lots of stuff to the new Cowbridge shop, including posters, watches and boxes of clothing. I hope you'll pay a visit and share in my favourite things."

A message from John and Carole
We are gobsmacked (there's no other word for it) that someone has posted the official cover of Hollow Earth online. We hope that the person who did this will take it down and do nothing else to spoil the book's official release in February.
We're thrilled that there's excitement about our book, and we're thankful for that, but we had some cool things planned for younger readers when we released the cover at the book's launch.
Of course, we'll still do those things, but it's disappointing nonetheless that some of the surprise has been taken from us.

Message from John regarding autograph requests
First of all, thank you to all my fans who've heeded my request not to ask for autographs or items to be signed until I'd cleared the backlog. Hurrah! I've now signed all the items sent to me after the tour and panto. But not hurrah - I'm still swamped with requests and items to be signed.
So I need to ask for your indulgence and patience for a while longer. Until I'm fully caught up (it'll happen), I can't accept any further requests for autographs or signed items. This means any further SAEs I receive will be returned unsigned.
I know this may disappoint many of you, but I also know you appreciate how difficult it is for me to make this decision. I adore and appreciate you all and, when my schedule opens up a bit, I'll let you know when you can resume sending things to be signed.

A message from John
I met Thomas Reid at a book signing a while back. We chatted for a few minutes, shared a joke and a laugh. Tom was 19 and funny and full of life and last year he died.
Tom was a healthy young man, but, one night, when he was out with his friends, he suddenly complained that his heart was beating very fast and that he felt ill. Tom collapsed and the hospital emergency staff could not resuscitate him. Tom died of a little known condition called Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome (SADS).
While I’ve been on tour, you’ve been leaving gifts and cards for me at the stage door and I love that you care about me so much to do this. But I would like to ask that instead of gifts for me, how about supporting a charity that’s working to stop young men like Tom dying from this syndrome?
The organization, Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) is working to raise awareness of conditions that lead to Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome (SADS). It would mean a lot to me if you’d send this worthy cause a donation instead of buying gifts for me.
Thank you,
John

John's Concert Tour - Stage Door and Gifts
During the upcoming tour, John is sorry that he won't be able to sign autographs at the stage door. He needs to protect his health and his voice to be able to perform at all 24 venues.
However tempting, we'd advise against leaving items at the concert venues for signing in case they go astray or are damaged.
Fans have suggested giving John gifts during the tour. He has said previously that, while he appreciates their thoughtfulness, he would much prefer people to make a donation to charity than to spend money on him. John's preferred charities, with information on how to donate, are on the charity page. If you wish, you can state that you're donating as an opening night gift for John's tour.
We hope you enjoy the concerts!

Titan Publishing will release a US Torchwood Comic on 10 August. The first issue will feature "The Selkie" which was written by John and his sister, Carole, and illustrated by Tommy Lee Edwards. This story first appeared in the British Torchwood magazine.
John is overjoyed to have worked with Tommy Lee Edwards, who he describes as one of his favourite artists. The pair began their collaboration when John and his sister Carole came across a poster of Captain Jack at the 2008 San Diego Comic Con.
"Tommy and Trevor had drawn a brilliant poster of my face super-imposed over the Face of Boe, which I think is the best piece of Captain Jack art I've seen,"" John said. "The four of us hit it off immediately and I asked if they'd ever be interested in working with us on a Captain Jack project. They thought about it for, oh, about 30 seconds, and so 'Captain Jack and the Selkie' was born!"

John Barrowman - the new Album, now available to pre-order from iTunes UK
The album download for the UK and Eire also includes the exclusive bonus track "The Doctor and I".
Recorded exclusively for the iTunes album, The Doctor and I, about Captain Jack’s relationship with Doctor Who, is an imaginative re-working of "The Wizard And I" from the musical "Wicked".
John explains:
"I first sang this version of the song at a concert in Wales for, amongst others, David Tennant and Russell T. Davies," he says of his Doctor Who co-star and writer, "and they loved it. Which is why it's on this album. We've given it new lyrics to make the song relevant to Captain Jack and his relationship with the Doctor. It’s quirky, it's funny and it's really good. I'm terribly proud of it."
Stephen Schwartz says:
“It's always fun for a songwriter to hear a talented singer take a song and do something different with it. I have been lucky enough to have the terrific John Barrowman do it with two of my songs, the enchanting new duet arrangement of "So Close" from Enchanted (with Jodie Prenger's fantastic voice blending perfectly with John's) and John's "wicked" re-imagining of The Wizard -- oops, I mean The Doctor and I. Thank you, John, for making this songwriter very happy."

John Barrowman - The new album (now due for release 1 March)
John Barrowman, Britain's most successful - and comfortably Britain's best - all-round entertainer releases his third solo album, the self-titled John Barrowman on March 1st on Arista.
John Barrowman is easily one of the most familiar faces on British television and the West End stage. Best known for playing Captain Jack Harkness in the BBC series’ Torchwood and Doctor Who, he has also been a judge on the award-winning BBC1 entertainment shows How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria?, Any Dream Will Do and I’d Do Anything. More recently he has hosted his own primetime Saturday night TV extravaganza, Tonight's The Night and graced London’s West End as Zaza in the Olivier Award-winning La Cage Aux Folles.
John Barrowman is perhaps his most personal album to date – the album he has always wanted to make. As with 2007's Another Side and 2008's Music Music Music, it is a masterful, evocative and uplifting journey into perhaps the man's first love, musical theatre, comprising his favourite moments from Cats, Mamma Mia, Jersey Boys and Mack and Mabel to name a few. The album is filled with instantly familiar classics - Memory, The Winner Takes It All, My Eyes Adored You - to the less immediately familiar, such as So Close, a spine-tingling duet with Jodie Prenger lifted from the recent Disney movie Enchanted and chosen for his niece Clare. Also included is a beautiful version of You’ll Never Walk Alone from Carousel, a song which his mother sang to him as a child. Every track holds an emotional relevance for John.
Recorded exclusively for the iTunes album, The Doctor and I, about Captain Jack’s relationship with Doctor Who, is an imaginative re-working of The Wizard And I from the musical Wicked.
John Barrowman is representative of a man at the height of his powers, someone who can fill a song with the same chutzpah and style that he can a role on the West End stage. Simply put, he has never sounded better. 2010 is already promising to be a remarkable year for John Barrowman with a number of major projects confirmed. Watch him go global!

Urgent Torchsong News. John unable to attend.
Unfortunately, John has sustained an injury and is no longer able to attend the Torchsong convention in Chicago this weekend as he is not allowed to fly. Please see the statement below from John's manager:
It is with great regret that I have to announce that John Barrowman is not able to attend Torchsong Chicago. John sustained a very nasty injury to his left ankle yesterday. An MRI scan has confirmed that he has completely ruptured all the ligaments around his ankle. He cannot bear any weight on his foot and the doctor has said he is not medically fit to undertake long distance flights or his planned work. He must rest at home with his foot elevated for much of the time.
The plan is for John to do a video link with Torchsong. He is upset not to be able to come and enjoy the weekend with you all. He sends his love and best wishes to you all.
Gavin Barker.
We know this news will be a huge disappointment to those of you attending
Torchsong and John and his manager are in contact with Mary Lee Holzheimer on the matter. Please bear with us and watch the Torchsong site for further news
from the convention organisers. We will announce any further information as soon
as we have it.
UPDATE: Torchsong organisers inform us that Peter Wingfield (star of Highlander, Stargate SG1 and Holby City) has kindly agreed to attend the convention.

Tonight's The Night
BBC One is making dreams come true as part of a brand new, six part Saturday night entertainment show. Hosted by Torchwood and West End star John Barrowman, Tonight's The Night combines show-stopping acts from world class artists with once-in-a-lifetime performances that make people's dreams come true.
It doesn't matter how young or old, or how big, small or bizarre the wish. Tonight's The Night will end up being the night ordinary people live out their performing fantasy for real and become the most unlikely stars that Saturday evenings have ever seen. From local community heroes to enthusiastic amateurs with a hidden talent they have been yearning to unleash, Tonight will be their time to shine - with the help of John and the best talent in the business.
This could mean duetting with a favourite pop group, singing with a big band or tripping the light fantastic with the cast of a hit West End musical. John will leave no performance stone unturned to make this the night of their lives and a must see for entertainment fans.
There will also be big laughs, with a succession of celebrity guest appearances, performances, exciting studio challenges and show-stopping numbers. Guest celebrities will support the stars for a night and become involved in making their wishes come true.
The studio audience will also be kept on their showbiz toes, because John will be hitting unsuspecting members with a series of elaborately staged surprises, turning their dreams into a reality on the night whether they like it or not!
John says "I am so excited to be part of this new BBC One entertainment format on Saturday nights. As well as being packed with showbiz razzle dazzle and celebrity guests, I"m really looking forward to finding the unlikely stars out there, putting a little extra sparkle in their life and helping them realise their dreams. It"s pure entertainment and all about making people's wishes come true".
BBC One Controller Jay Hunt says "Tonight"s The Night has all the hallmarks of great family entertainment. John Barrowman is the ultimate all round performer and the perfect host for this exciting new show".

Stage door - Hippodrome
There have been a number of queries as to why John hasn't been coming out to sign autographs at the Stage Door recently.
While there's never a guarantee that he is able to do this, as it has been so cold, to stand out there for prolonged periods would risk him becoming ill again having recently getting over his throat infection last month. He has therefore decided that he will not sign autographs at the Stage Door for the remainder of this run.
The crowds are sometimes too large, and this puts people in danger from cars travelling on the road adjacent to the stage door. In addition to peoples' safety, we also need to be mindful of the traffic problems caused when vehicles can't move freely pass by the stage door.
John really appreciates your support and knows that in some cases you've had a very long journey to come and see him, he's very conscious that he needs to remain fit in order to provide the quality entertainment that people expect of him.
We hope you all understand and enjoy the show.
