JB Convention: Gallifrey One

Gallifrey One is the world's largest and longest-running Doctor Who Convention. This year's convention at the Marriott Los Angeles Airport on 15-17 February will celebrate its 30th anniversary with a fabulous line-up, including Captain Jack Harkness himself! Fireman Sam, the long-running British animated TV show for younger viewers, is premiering an action-packed adventure, Fireman Sam: Set for Action!, guest-starring John as Hollywood actor, Flex Dexter. Holy Music Video

John and his husband, Scott, feature in Danielle LoPresti's new music video, Holy, which will be released at 11.18am PST on Friday, 18 November on www.holymusicvideo.com. All proceeds from the video will benefit the One Orlando Fund to benefit the victims, families and survivors of the Pulse Night club shooting.

The video features television star Anna Khaja as a Christian Minister who attempts to save the souls of her LGBT congregation members portrayed by real-life couples and families including John and Scott. The unscripted dialogue between Khaja's Minister and the families throughout the video create a riveting debate over the heart of the Bible's messaging.

Stage Door during panto

John is delighted to be in panto in Manchester - a first for panto company QDos and for John.

He appreciates that fans hope to see him after the show, but he will not be going to the Stage Door after matinees as there is limited time between the two shows during which he needs to prepare for the evening performance. Also, he will only occasionally be able to meet fans at the Stage Door after the evening shows. This will depend on the weather and on any other commitments he may have after the show.

John really appreciates your support and knows that some fans will have travelled a long way to see the panto. He is also conscious that he needs to remain fit to provide the quality entertainment that people expect of him. If he does come out to sign autographs that will be a bonus, but cannot be guaranteed after any particular show.

He hopes you all understand and enjoy the panto. Please feel free to pass this information to any fans who are going to panto.

JB and CB Comics: Acursian

Legendary Comics are teaming up with John, his sister and co-author Carole, and graphic novelist and writer Erika Lewis to create Acursian (formerly Cursed), a new comic book series that pits Celtic lore against a modern day anti-hero.

Speaking at Legendary's panel at Awesome Con in Washington DC, John said: "We've always wanted to write a story that pulls together our love of history, our Scottish heritage, and our love of sci-fi and the supernatural. Mix these all together and Cursed was born."

Disney's Broadway Hits: BBC Radio 2 and Sky Arts

New DC Arrow comic by John and Carole

John and his sister Carole have a new writing collaboration for us, a DC Comic series that explores the back story of John's Arrow character, Malcolm Merlyn. John told TV Insider, "It has to be one of the coolest things we’ve done together."

The comic, Arrow: The Dark Archer, will initially be available in digital format. Twelve chapters will be released bi-weekly starting Wednesday 13 January (available via the DC Comics App, readdcentertainment.com, iBooks, comixology.com, Google Play, Kindle Store, Nook Store, and iVerse ComicsPlus). JB TV: Emergency Animal Hospital

John's documentary series looking at the work of Glasgow's School of Veterinary Medicine is to be reworked as three one-hour episodes. The programme, a co-production by Barrowman Barker Productions and Tern TV, will be broadcast in a primetime slot on Channel 4 (UK) later this year.

The SECC and QDos Pantomimes have announced that the 2014-15 panto at the Clyde Auditorium will be Cinderella, with John leading the cast as the loveable and cheeky Buttons! The production also stars The Krankies, with Jimmy playing Button's brother, Zip, and Ian as Baron Hardup.

JB TV: Superstar Dogs

Superstar Dogs is John's new show for Channel 4 (UK). He's recording it in the big entertainment arena at Dock 10 on Salford Quays in Manchester from 27 to 31 January. The show is due to air on weekdays at 5.30pm for three weeks from 17 February.

The show sees devoted owners and their dogs team up to compete across a series of supremely challenging and totally entertaining supersized Dog Sports, from Splash and Grab to Sprint Ball, Goal Hound and the dreaded final Dogstacle Course.

It's the ultimate team - man and his best friend competing side-by-side. Neither one will want to let the other down, but anything could happen...

Head of Zeus Books have confirmed that they have acquired the UK and Commonwealth rights in John and Carole's Hollow Earth Unbound, a new trilogy for ages 12+. They have also bought the rights to the third book in the first Hollow Earth trilogy, aimed at 9-12 year olds, which will be published in July 2014. The new trilogy will start in July 2015.

JB Movies: All Stars and Zero Dark Thirty

John has supporting roles in two major movies coming out in 2013.

Vertigo Films' All Stars follows the story of a misfit group of youngsters to stage an ambitious dance show in an effort to save their youth club. Described as "a funny and spectacular roller coaster ride through East London and the crazy world of kids' imaginations", John plays Matthew, who appears (very briefly!) in the film's first trailer:

Celebrity Antiques Road Trip has airdate

Earlier this year John filmed an episode of Celebrity Antiques Road Trip with Mylene Klass. In the show they are aided by antiques experts David Harper and David Barby (who sadly died soon after the programme was made) in a hunt for antiques that will turn a profit. Along their way they take in Bristol, Chepstow, Newport and Cardiff before winding up at auction in Froncysylite near the Welsh/English Border.

PetNet have announced that John has been crowned the UK's top Celebrity Dog Owner 2012 in the inaugural PetNet Celebrity Pet Owner Awards 2012.

Despite fierce competition from Alesha Dixon and Paul O'Grady, John was a clear winner in the Celebrity Dog Owner of the Year category with fans flooding to the website to show support for him and his pooches Charlie, Captain Jack and Harris.

Blackpool Concert Cancelled

Press release follows:

Tonight's John Barrowman concert at the new Tower Festival Headland, Blackpool, has been cancelled on health and safety grounds, after severe weather was forecast by the Met Office.

John Barrowman today apologised for the cancellation and promised to return to perform in the resort very soon but explained that the safety of fans and his technical team was of the utmost importance.

All ticket holders will receive a full refund of the ticket face value.

Concert organisers Cuffe & Taylor are responsible for bringing John Barrowman to Tower Festival Headland, Blackpool, with the destination management company, Marketing Blackpool, responsible for the site, staging and infrastructure, along with all health and safety of the event site.

A spokesperson for Cuffe & Taylor said: “We have consulted with Marketing Blackpool’s health and safety team and they have advised us that, due to the forecast of severe weather, it is unsafe for our teams to install the sound and lighting equipment for this evening’s concert.

“Whilst the weather forecast is much better for later today and for Sunday, there isn’t time for us to install the equipment safely and without putting our staff at risk.

“We have endeavoured to do everything possible to allow John to perform but we have to follow the advice of the venue's management.”

Commenting on the announcement today, John Barrowman said: “I am deeply disappointed that Mother Nature has had the final say on my concert in Blackpool. I’ve been following the forecast very closely all week! 
“Obviously, I really want to perform for my fans, however, the safety of fans and my technical team is of the utmost importance and I have to follow the advice of the organisers. I promise that I will be back to Blackpool very soon!!!”

Organisers Cuffe & Taylor have arranged for all ticket holders for tonight’s event to receive a full refund for any tickets purchased.

Ticket holders are advised to contact their original point of purchase to arrange a refund.

JB TV: Bizarre ER

The new series of Bizarre ER, narrated by John, airs on the US channel Discovery Fit and Health starting on Saturday 6 July with back-to-back episodes at 10pm (ET/PT).

Filmed at two hospitals, one in the US and one in the UK, this show follows patients with unusual conditions from their arrival at the ER, through diagnosis, treatment and discharge from the hospital.

Bizarre ER is made by Maverick TV. The first four series were filmed for and aired by BBC Three, but it is currently unknown when or if the new series will reach the UK.

JB Summer Concerts - 21-24 June

John will perform in four special open-air summer concerts in Scarborough, Glasgow, Blackpool and Hampton Court Palace this June. Launching the concerts, promoters Cuffe and Taylor said:

'Doctor' John receives an honorary degree

John was today awarded the title 'Doctor of Drama' in a graduation ceremony at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (RSAMD) in Glasgow. The award recognises his contribution to the entertainment industry, including his twenty two years as a musical theatre performer.

The BBC have announced that three new Torchwood radio plays will be broadcast on BBC Radio 4 from Monday, 11 to Wednesday, 13 July at 2.15pm. Set prior to Children of Earth, the plays are titled Torchwood: The Lost Files and star John, Eve Myles and Gareth David-Lloyd.

Listeners around the world will be able to tune in live online to the Torchwood radio plays via the BBC Radio 4 website.

JB Convention Appearance - San Diego Comic Con

Torchwood: Miracle Day featured strongly at the San Diego Comic Con with a standing-room-only Q&A on Friday 22 July 2011. John was joined by Eve Myles, Bill Pullman, Mekhi Phifer, Alexa Havins and writer Jane Espenson for a lively discussion panel. He also represented Torchwood on a special "Supernaturals" panel hosted by TV Guide on 23 July.

CRY and John say Thank You for the generosity of fans

In December 2010, to celebrate John's opening night in Aladdin at the SECC, Glasgow, John's official news list donated a total of £1027.12 to CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young), a charity that raises money to screen and detect young people who may be at risk of Sudden Death Syndrome. With Gift Aid, this donation reached a grand total of £1141.67! CRY have written to say thank you, and John would like to say a big Thank You! to all his fans who donated to such an amazing cause.

First of all, thank you to all my fans who've heeded my request not to ask for autographs or items to be signed until I'd cleared the backlog. Hurrah! I've now signed all the items sent to me after the tour and panto. But not hurrah - I'm still swamped with requests and items to be signed.

So I need to ask for your indulgence and patience for a while longer. Until I'm fully caught up (it'll happen), I can't accept any further requests for autographs or signed items. This means any further SAEs I receive will be returned unsigned.

I know this may disappoint many of you, but I also know you appreciate how difficult it is for me to make this decision. I adore and appreciate you all and, when my schedule opens up a bit, I'll let you know when you can resume sending things to be signed.

BBC Entertainment confirm third series of Tonight's The Night

BBC Entertainment have confirmed there will be a third series of Tonight's The Night, a BBC Vision co-production with Barrowman Barker Productions. In the show, John surprises people with a unique chance to fulfill their dreams.

John and Kristina win Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special

John triumphed in the Strictly Christmas Special, broadcast last night on BBC1.

Dressed in grey, rhinestone-clad trousers and waistcoat, he danced an American Smooth Quickstep with his partner, Kristina Rihanoff and, as he said in VT, boy was it quick!

The judges loved it. John and Kristina gained three nines, and a ten from Bruno, putting them at the top of the leader board, a position which the studio audience then supported with their own vote and the glitter star trophy was John's!

A message from John

I met Thomas Reid at a book signing a while back. We chatted for a few minutes, shared a joke and a laugh. Tom was 19 and funny and full of life and last year he died.

Tom was a healthy young man, but, one night, when he was out with his friends, he suddenly complained that his heart was beating very fast and that he felt ill. Tom collapsed and the hospital emergency staff could not resuscitate him. Tom died of a little known condition called Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome (SADS).

While I’ve been on tour, you’ve been leaving gifts and cards for me at the stage door and I love that you care about me so much to do this. But I would like to ask that instead of gifts for me, how about supporting a charity that’s working to stop young men like Tom dying from this syndrome?

The organization, Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) is working to raise awareness of conditions that lead to Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome (SADS). It would mean a lot to me if you’d send this worthy cause a donation instead of buying gifts for me.

John's Concert Tour - Stage Door and Gifts

During the upcoming tour, John is sorry that he won't be able to sign autographs at the stage door. He needs to protect his health and his voice to be able to perform at all 24 venues.

However tempting, we'd advise against leaving items at the concert venues for signing in case they go astray or are damaged.

Fans have suggested giving John gifts during the tour. He has said previously that, while he appreciates their thoughtfulness, he would much prefer people to make a donation to charity than to spend money on him. John's preferred charities, with information on how to donate, are on the charity page. If you wish, you can state that you're donating as an opening night gift for John's tour.

John to return to Glasgow - as Robinson Crusoe!

Following last year's highly successful panto, Qdos and the SECC have announced that John will be back on the Clyde Auditorium stage this winter season as Robinson Crusoe in Robinson Crusoe and the Caribbean Pirates. He will again be joined by Glasgow pantomime favourites, The Krankies, who will play Captain Crusoe and Jimmy Crusoe!

The panto was launched with a photoshoot at the SECC on 13 September.

JBTV - BBC North West Tonight

A new eight part series called THE MUSICAL begins Monday 6 September on BBC Radio 2 at 10pm. John is a contributor to the series although we don't have details of which episode(s) he can be heard in.

Proms in the Park

John is to perform at the BBC's Proms in the Park in Salford. The event is being held on 11 September at Buile Hill Park and will feature the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra and special guests. The West End Bares All!

The West End will be stripping off on Sunday 5 September at Café de Paris in aid of The Make A Difference Trust. The event will be hosted by John with a vast array of celebrity guests.

Based on the original concept by legendary Director and Choreographer Jerry Mitchell (Hairspray, Legally Blonde, Love Never Dies), West End Bares will play for two shows (9:30pm and midnight), with over 100 of the hottest performers in town combining the naughtiness of burlesque and the razzle-dazzle of the West End in this unique event.

The event will become one of The Make A Difference Trust’s three annual signature events, which include West End Eurovision and A West End Christmas, which are in their 3rd and 7th sell-out years respectively.

During their talk at the National Theatre on 24 June, John and Carole announced that they would be writing a children's novel. The book will be published by Buster Books, the children's imprint of Michael O'Mara, who published John's autobiographies. The story will follow 13-year-old twins on a science fiction/fantasy adventure and is scheduled for release in August 2011.

National Theatre Platform Event

John and his sister Carole were at the National Theatre this evening for a well-received Platform event hosted by Kaye Adams. They chatted about the recently published paperback edition of John's second book, "I Am What I Am", which has additional stories from John's time in La Cage Aux Folles and Desperate Housewives. Fans also asked about the newly-commissioned fourth series of Torchwood and the new series of Tonight's The Night. Tonight's the Night. Studio recordings now fully booked

The popularity of studio audience tickets for Tonight's the Night has resulted in all seven shows becoming fully booked in under a day.

For those of you who have been allocated tickets, the show will be recording at Pacific Quay (BBC Scotland), Pacific Drive, Glasgow G51 1DA on Sunday 4, 11, 18 and 25 July and Sunday 1 and 8 August and Thursday 12 August. Entry on site is from 3.15pm with studio doors opening at 4.15pm.

Please note, it is practice to issue more tickets than seats available, and entry is first come, first served. So we advise you to get there early.

An article in the current issue of UK celebrity magazine OK! (dated 15 June) features John on holiday in Antigua earlier this year. The article includes photos of John and his partner Scott relaxing on the beautiful beaches of this Caribbean island.

International Torchwood confirmed!

BBC Wales, BBC Worldwide and US premium entertainment network Starz Entertainment have just announced a three way partnership that will develop a new series of Torchwood. The new series of ten episodes will be written by Russell T Davies and produced and distributed by BBC Worldwide.

John will return in his role of Captain Jack along with Eve Myles as Gwen. Additional cast are still to be announced.

Storylines will include locations in the US and around the world and the show will air on both Starz and BBC One in summer 2011.

US release of John and Carole's Torchwood story

Titan Publishing will release a US Torchwood Comic on 10 August. The first issue will feature "The Selkie" which was written by John and his sister, Carole, and illustrated by Tommy Lee Edwards. This story first appeared in the British Torchwood magazine.

John is overjoyed to have worked with Tommy Lee Edwards, who he describes as one of his favourite artists. The pair began their collaboration when John and his sister Carole came across a poster of Captain Jack at the 2008 San Diego Comic Con.

"Tommy and Trevor had drawn a brilliant poster of my face super-imposed over the Face of Boe, which I think is the best piece of Captain Jack art I've seen,"" John said. "The four of us hit it off immediately and I asked if they'd ever be interested in working with us on a Captain Jack project. They thought about it for, oh, about 30 seconds, and so 'Captain Jack and the Selkie' was born!"

After John's first successful visit to QVC when his CD sold out within 5 minutes, he will be returning to the channel on 22 June to promote the paperback edition of I Am What I Am and the CD John Barrowman. He is expected to appear in the 1.00pm slot for an hour. Not to be missed!

I Am What I Am to be released in paperback

John wins a What's On Stage Award

John has received the whatsonstage.com award for Best Takeover in a Role for his portrayal of Albin/ZaZa in La Cage Aux Folles. John was unable to attend tonight's ceremony but his video message can be seen on the What's on Stage website. John's award was accepted on his behalf by actress Jodie Prenger, winner of the reality show 'I'd Do Anything', on which John was a judge. Jodie has also recorded a duet with John, "So Close" which appears on his new CD, due for release 1 March.

'The Doctor and I' is a tongue-in-cheek reworking of 'The Wizard and I' from the musical, Wicked. To acknowledge this, Digital Spy have even given us a picture of John as Elphaba!

Album signing at Sainsburys, Sydenham

John will be signing copies of his new CD at Sainsburys in Sydenham on Wednesday 3 March. The signing session starts at 1pm and finishes at 2.30pm.
